The proposed project proposes several actions in the area. These actions include reintroducing fire into a fire-adapted ecosystem, improving forest health, promoting aspen regeneration and reducing meadow encroachment by conifer trees. The ranger district also hopes to improve the quality of recreation in the area. The proposed plan includes cultivating and improving existing recreational sites to attract more visitors and bolster the economy. Also included in the early stages of the proposition is wildfire protection in the wildland-urban interface. The project is still in the early stages of planning, said district National Environmental Policy Act planner Kyla Sabo. This winter, specialists in the district plan to look over data to help with planning the project. "Our specialists are still gathering data, wildlife, botany, archeology surveys and we are hoping to develop a plan to present to the public in several public meetings this coming spring," commented Sabo in an email to Feather Publishing. Public invited to fire meeting Fall has been a busy time for the Plumas County Safe Council and members invite everyone to their monthly meeting to learn more about the diverse projects that they are working on throughout Plumas County. The council meets this Thursday (and the second Thursday of each month) at the Plumas County Planning and Building Services Conference Room from 9 to 11 a.m. The Planning and Building Services office is located at 555 Main St. in Quincy. The mission of the Plumas County Fire Safe Council is "to reduce the loss of natural and human-made resources caused by wildfire through Firewise Community programs and prefire activities." The council works coUaboratively with local organizations, fire departments, citizens, businesses, communities and representatives of local, state and federal government agencies to reduce the severity and devastation resulting from future wfldland fires. Director of Mental Health Peter Livingston will be the guest speaker. He will answer questions about the recently held focus groups and public meetings on the needs and future structure of county mental health services. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.rd. at the Quincy library.
