It takes 40 volunteers and 40 dozen rolls to serve a dinner that has been a tradition for approximately 40 years. Kitty Gay and Jackie Garfield, the coordinators this year, expected to serve about 400 dinners in takeout and sit-down service Nov. 13. The day began early for the volunteers. IN PLUMAS COUNTY Effective November 14, 2014, the Plumas County Solid Waste Program will be receiving "GREEN WASTE" disposal material in the American Valley area at the site of Feather River Disposal, Inc., located at 1166 Industria! Way, Quincy. until further notice, the Hours of Operations are: Friday: Saturday: Sunday: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Fee Schedule: Collection fee is $4.89 per cubic yard. Fees for typical volumes are as follows: Up to 50 gallon trash container $1.25 Compact pick-up $5.50 Compact pick-up w/sideboards $11.00 , Standard pick-up $6.50 Standard pick-up w/sideboards $13.00 Long bed pick-up $8.75 Long bed pick-up w/sideboard $17.50 Green waste shall not contain limbs or brush greater than 2 feet in length. No processed or treated wood will be accepted. Operations of the Green Waste Facility will be conducted by the Plumas County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division. Inquiries are requested to be directed to the Plumas County Department of Public Works at (530) 283-6268 during normal weekday office hours. of 24 turkeys about 8 a.m., with others joining in as the day progressed. Members of the church congregation delivered all the makings of a Thanksgiving feast including the roasted turkeys, stuffing and desserts. "The congregation donated everything except the turkeys," Kitty said, although they do roast them. ; The menu also included mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries and a salad bar. The dinner is a fundraiser for the church and the proceeds help the church "pay the bills through the winter," Kitty said. The dinner draws a diverse crowd -- from church members to college students -- and they may choose to take the food out or sit down to eat. Janet Radtke is one of the diners who chooses to eat in. "I come for the fellowship," she said, as she chatted with those around her. Diners help themselves to a salad bar, but then hostesses  ki  of the rest-- delivgi'ing beverages and plates full of turkey dinner. Cranberries and hot rolls grace the table and dessert carts laden with pumpkin pie and other desserts are rolled through the crowd.
