Feather River Bulletin Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014. 7A Truck hits horse and rider along Quincy Junction Road A Saturday afternoon ride turned into a trip to the hospital for a Quincy woman when a truck hit her horse Nov. 15. Mary Battagin, 60, was riding her horse, Favor, north along Quincy Junction Road, just north of Clear Creek Road, at 12:30 p.m. According to the report by the California Highway Patrol, Walter Block, 70, also of Quincy, was driving his truck northbound on Quincy Junction Road. As Battagin was crossing a bridge spanning Greenhorn Creek, she heard Block approaching from behind and also saw a vehicle coming toward her. She decided to join other horse riders located south of the bridge for safety and turned her horse around in the northbound lane and proceeded to travel southbound in the northbound lane. Block's vehicle struck Battagin's horse. Battagin was transported to Plumas District Hospital to be treated for injuries. She suffered four small fractures in her right knee. Favor and the truck's driver escaped injury. The California Highway Patrol and emergency personnel respond to Quincy Junction Road after a truck struck a horse and its rider.
