Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 3C Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter A 3-1 loss at home to Fresno City College ended the Feather River College's volleyball team's drive to the state championship Nov. 28. Previously in the week, FRC took down Shasta College in three sets to advance to the second round. The Eagles were seeded third in northern California and were favored over sixth-seeded Fresno. Earlier in the season, however, FRC lost to Fresno at the American River Tournament. "Rough night, we just didn't play well," FRC coach Sarah Ritchie said, describing the match. "We had too many errors and in the big games like that one, you just can:t do that." The Eagles started the match With an advantage, winning the first set with a tight 26-24 final score. The rest of the sets proved to be just as tight, with Fresno winning 25-22, 25-1 7 and a nail-biting 29-27. Against Shasta, FRC dominated the first set, winning 25-8. Shasta was stronger the next two sets, but FRC was able to still prevail, winning 25-22 and 26-24. Morgan Hughes led the Eagles against Shasta with 14 kills. Justine Cota contributed eight, and Lexxey Southern seven. Stats for the match against Fresno were not posted at press time. Overall, the Golden Eagles had another successful season. Accomplishments include winning the Golden Valley Conference title and going undefeated in conference play. "These girls did have an amazing season and won another conference title," said Ritchie. "It has been a pleasure to coach them all." Feather River College's Liz Rosenberg goes for the kill during the Eagles' match against Shasta College on Nov. 24. FRC won in three sets to move on to the second round of playoffs, where they lost to Fresno College last Saturday.
