The site is easily updated and soon staff at the shelter and other Friends volunteers will add animals as soon as they. become eligible for adoption -- and happily take those who have found homes off the site. This resource is an abso- lute necessity in today's world --people who want a specific breed, age, gender can put in the request and get a match within seconds. PLUMAS COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER 283-3673 Friends member Beth Stewart has put the animals at the Plumas County shelter on Petfinders, bringing these adoptable pets to a much larger pool of poterrtial adopters than a small, local listing could possibly reach. A gift that keeps on giving is gaining popularity this year: the Cali- fornia Pet Lover's License Plate ( "Traditionally, pet lovers have looked for gifts that pro- vide instant gratification for their pets: toys, treats and accessories like beds, collars and sweaters," said Found Animals Foundation Execu- tive Director Aimee Gilbreath. "In 2010, we're encouraging pet lovers to add more gifts that keep giving all year long to their selections, from a promise to head to the dog park each week to visible expressions of love for a pet." This holiday season, pet out of style or gets "used up." The whimsical license plate can be personalized with a beloved pet's name (or other words), features original artwork created and donated by international actor, artist and animal lover Pierce Brosnan showing two of the animals. Brosnan and his wife, Keely, adopted Shilo the dog and Angel Baby the cat. Buying the California Pet Lover's license plate helps provide free or low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, and displays a person's love for pets. In addition, it will help raise awareness about the overwhelming number of homeless and unwanted dogs and cats in California and' the importance of spaying and neutering pets to save animal lives. THINK Invest m PLUMAS COUNTY The shelter has had great success as many of our recent detainees have been pure- bred dogs: a Germa n shep- herd puppy, a German short- hair pointer and soon a Staffordshire bull terrier all leave for happy new families. If you think you need to go out of town or spend a lot of money to get a wonderful pet, think again and think local next time. In the one-and-a-half years since the inception of Friends, there have been many improvements at the shelter, and many benefits to the animals are now a reality. The dogs get regular outdoor exercise, they eat better food, and the pups and kittens all get nutritious canned meals -- compliments of Friends and the ever- vigilant kennel techs, Gordon and Alicia. We work to get .as many animals spayed or neutered as we can afford and always seek to help the at-risk animals: the pregnant cats and the un-neutered males who go crazy with the con- finement and the smells in the kennel environment. None of the improvements in physical health and emotional well-being would be possible without the support and contributions of the public. To say thank you, Friends host an open house at the shelter Dec. 11, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Come by and visit the facility; see the play yards and outdoor kennels and the still-under-construction outdoor cat enclosure; enjoy some homemade cookies and cakes; play with the kittens and take a dog for a walk. Let us thank you in person for all you have done for the animals. We hope to see you Dec. 11!: Friends of the PC animal Shelter is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation; al) donations are tax deductible.
