Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 lC I AND Golden Eagles make school history with trip to state championships Greg Knight Sports Writer sp0rts@plu For the first time in the history of the Feather River College volleyball program the Lady Golden Eagles earned the right to compete in the 2014 California Community College Athletic Association Final Four championship series -- courtesy of a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-16) win over American River College in Round 3 of the playoffs last week. Irvine Valley 3, FRC 1 In FRC's first championship game, the Lady Eagles fell 3-1 (9-25, 25-23, 20-25, 16-25) to Irvine in a game that saw Stephanie Ovitz lead with 11 kills, Manna Watt record three aces, Nina Holmes take 13 digs and Mariah Diaz successfully block a shot by the Lady Lasers. The loss was the first game FRC dropped since Oct. 25 when the Eagles fell to state champion Cabrillo in a 3-0 win for the Seahawks. ~:iiii:::!z!!i!~i Grossmont 3, FRC 2 Drawing a match against the No. 2 seed in the south, See Volleyball, page 2C Brooke House (No. 10) drives around defenders at the John Holland Tournament in Greenville last week. Greg Knight Sports Writer sports@plumasnews.corn If there was ever a dynamic duo in the history of Greenville Indians basketball, it may just be the combo of Walker Meyers and Justus Eaglesmith -- a pair who proved their offensive mettle in the opener of the John Holland Invitational tournament last week by scoring 20 points each in a 78-26 rout of the Elk Creek Elks. Two other Indians, Darian Potts and Christian Beres, were also in double digits with 16 and 10 points each, respectively. Ray Bustamante, James Martinez and Kacee Clark also put up" buckets for Greenville in the game. From three-point land, Eaglesmith was on fire as he went three for three beyond the arc. Potts also swished a trey as part of his 16-point run. Despite the big win coming out of the gates, the Indians dropped their next two games, a 63-49 loss to Redding Christian and a tough 50-44 See Holland, page 2C certified Pre-o ,med CARS TRUCKS Up to $3,500 Customer Cash on.
